TRANSLATION SERVICES

Dear friends,

my name is Karel Kessner. I’m interested in translation enterprise. I live in my native town of Brno, in the Czech Republic, the member state of the European Union.

Please, be so kind to inform me, whether or not you would like me to translate some texts for you: I prefer translations from English into the Czech language, but I could possibly be of use to you also regarding translation from Czech (or from Slovak) into English language.

I’m a native Czech speaker. I loved English and German language so much, that few decades ago I emigrated to West Germany, where I worked in the U. S. Army as a civilian, and then I lived for few years in the USA, working there in San Franciscan printing shops, mostly in San Francisco Examiner and Chronicle Newspaper Company. My Czech composition is better than English, of course, especially when I use very good dictionaries scrupulously, including Czech-English Dictionaries of the Most Common Noun-Verb Combinations and of Noun-Adjective Combinations. It would be practical, if you specified the style and manner, in which I should work for you.

Please, send me information about your conditions. Salary for my translations (according to continuously performed job) would not have to be higher than an average salary paid to translators of written texts in your country, in due proportion to demandingness. Suggested preliminary contract enclosed to your response together with texts to be translated would be helpful, of course. Payments could be made by cheques mailed to my Czech address continuously or at your suggestion.

Apart from all kinds of other texts, I have already translated into the Czech language even some books written by American writers, for example:

Sue Bishop’s book „Develop Your Assertiveness“;
Clarke L. Caywood’s „Public Relations“;
Philip Carter’s and Ken Russel’s „Psychometric Testing“ and „More Psychometric Testing“;
Dick Canada’s „The 24 Sales Traps and How to Avoid Them“;
Bradley R. Schiller’s „The Economy Today“;
Marie-Louise von Franz’s books
„Animus and Anima in Fairy Tales“,
„The Passion of Perpetua“ and
„The Cat: A Tale of Feminine Redemption“;
3 volumes of Murray Stein’s and Lionel Corbett’s „Psyche’s Stories“;
Peter Kreeft’s drama „Socrates Meets Jesus“;
David E. Schoen’s „Divine Tempest“,
Masaru Emoto’s „The Hidden Messages in Water“, and „The Secret Life of Water“;
Edward F. Edinger’s „The Eternal Drama“;
Deike Begg’s „Synchronicity“.

I have also translated from the Czech language into English parts of Ivo Benda’s reports „Talks With Instructions From My Cosmic Friends“ and other texts.

My enthusiasm was one of the reasons of higher quality, because I pondered about author’s ideas more profoundly, checking in very detailed dictionaries even words, which I knew, to find from possible meanings the best one.

Since I live in the Czech Republic, our cooperation would probably develop only on the level of written translations. However, it is possible, that I could fit the role of interpreter, especially if you needed me to provide such service in my country of birth. From time to time I was asked to interpret on the occasion of various discourses, but I would prefer to translate in person just in case of rather more private conversations, for I’m not narrowly specialized expert in that. I have got some experience of this kind also during my long-lasting sojourn in the USA, where I had to converse even with African-Americans, emigrants from many countries, who spoke in various dialects, deaf and dumb colleagues, aged people, very advanced in years, etc. Although I’m not acquainted with all words and phrases, finding myself in the role of interpreter I did not have butterflies in my stomach and sometimes it was great fun (in a good sense of humour).

Your positive approach regarding my translations would be encouraging. I’m looking forward to receiving your answer, comprising among other things information regarding anticipated range of your demand, working load, stock of the work, job description, salary, etc. Feel free to contact me whenever you like. I understand, that your requirements might be somewhat different; however, where there’s a will, there’s a way.

With greetings,
KAREL KESSNER,
(date of birth: February 15, 1947),
